Oh, it’s that time that I really do not enjoy! The time when every commercial is a political ad, when signs are going up in yards, and every other facebook status is about who is not the best candidate for President of the United States! I despise it! Part of that is probably because I have limited knowledge about politics and the candidates. I have my sources of info; men in my life that know much more than I do. I will be able to cast a knowledgeable vote.
This year seems especially urgent as President Obama has done much damage to our country in the last four years. People used to say that President Bush was a big spender, but I think he looks pretty frugal now. 🙂 And not just financially and economically, but his stance on moral issues is very wicked!
People will quote “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD…” but in the next breath will say what doom this country is in for! Do we really believe God is in control of our nation? Since when did a political leader decide what God is going to do? The next president will definitely impact this nation, but our hope is in Christ, not a political figure! Christ will save our nation! Whether He will or not is all in His plan. Presidents can have a great effect on laws and the direction of our nation, but they can do nothing to save souls!
Besides all this, the Bible tells us,
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Do any of these words describe our political situation? Um… don’t think so! Then don’t dwell on them! I’m not saying bury your head in the sand and pretend it will all go away. Be informed, vote, stand for what’s right! But launching disscussions and arguments rarely, if ever do any good. Think on “these things,” and dwell on the things the Bible says.
The next President of our nation has a big job ahead. We truly need to be praying for our political leaders. The Bible tells us to, and most of us need to be more dedicated in that area. But go ahead and serve God, regardless of this year’s election, and He will guide the “king” to turn his heart “whithersoever he [God] will”!
